Can you approach an icon like Marylin Monroe without simply imitating her? Without relying on poster-like representation? What kind of clichés are there to be found in the audience’s expectations? Is there a hidden depth to this character that might be discovered without deconstructing the established image?
„I have always been afraid of words, it is easier for me to speak with my body”, Marylin Monroe said in one of her interviews. What does it really mean to be a wounded diva? The investigation of an icon created by the media. A sexsymbol and shocking picture of the 1950s that almost seems modest nowadays. Numerous charismatic portrayals have been done in the past and continue to be a topic of interest. A revolting experiment using urban and contemporary dance vocabulary to try and peek behind the curtain, striving to find an answer to the question: “What is this woman’s secret?”.
Kann man sich einem Kultbild wie Marylin Monroe nähern ohne plakativ und nachahmend zu wirken? Erwartungen, die aus den Blicken der Menschen hervordrängen – was verbirgt sich hinter diesen Vorstellungen von Klischees? Gibt es eine verborgene Tiefe, die solch eine Ikone zulassen kann, ohne das festgefahrene Image zu destabilisieren? “Ich hatte immer schon Angst vor Worten, einfacher war es mir mit dem Körper zu sprechen.” sagte Marilyn Monroe in einem Interview. Was bedeutet es eine verletzte Diva zu sein? Eine Hinterfragung einer von Medien gefertigten Ikone. Ein Schockbild und Sexsymbol der 50er, das heute fast sittsam erscheint – ihre charismatischen Darstellungen reichen von einst bis jetzt. Ein revoltierender Versuch mit dem Bewegungsvokabular des Urban Styles / Breakdance gepaart mit Zeitgenössischem Tanz einen Blick hinter die Fassade zu werfen, und eine Antwort auf die Frage „Worin liegt das Geheimnis dieser Frau?” zu finden.
